Roberta was reading the Newsminer this morning and ran across an article discussing wolf sightings out by our old house on Chena Hotsprings road.

As most of our friends know, when we lived in Alaska we spent the last 6 months out at 22 mile Chena Hot Springs Road near a little town called Two Rivers.  Well it seems that there have been some Wolf sightings out in the area.

A lull in reported wolf sightings near Fairbanks was broken temporarily last weekend when two people reported seeing black wolves near the same spot on Chena Hot Springs Road.

Mary Brusso, who lives on Merry Meadow Lane at 9.75 Mile Chena Hot Springs Road, said she stepped outside at around 12:30 a.m. and saw two black wolves standing in her driveway about 100 feet away.

“They were not dogs,” she said Tuesday. “These were big. They were wolves.”

The other report came from someone at 9.5 Mile Chena Hot Springs Road, who reported seeing one black wolf, according to Cathie Harms of the Department of Fish and Game. There was no indication of interaction with the wolves in either case.

There have also been very few reports of tracks in the area in the last two weeks, Harms wrote on the department’s new online wolf reporting service, adding, “In this case, little news is good news.”

Brusso said she doesn’t like the idea of having wolves around. She runs a day care out of her home.

She also has a horse that she used to keep in a fenced-in enclosure outside, she added. Now she puts the horse in the garage at night out of concern over wolves.
