My tribute to John has been shut down because I used a song by Green Day in the background. After two years no less. To say I’m slightly pissed isĀ a slight understatement. I won’t comment on the state of the record industry or their total inability to understand modern technology. It’s wasted breath.
I will say this. “Yo Green Day! Go bugger yourselves!” Next time someone dies for this country I’ll be sure not to mention you sorry bastards.

Thanks for posting this up. I run a Green Day site and was interested in this story because Green Day has always been really easy-going when it comes to people using their stuff. So i looked a bit into it.
It looks like the issue is apparently from a break between their label (Warner) and YouTube. I’m upset about this because Warner once again fails to realize that someone using a video in the background of a tribute video isn’t hurting their business. But as a result of the deal being broken between the two companies, YouTube is now removing tons of content by artists from Warner.

Thanks for the update Andres. I was pretty bent last night when I got the email from Youtube. I figured it was the record company or some sub section of it that caused the problem.
I just started reading your website and I see a LOT of comments about this. So, I’m not alone.
I like Green Day, but the record companies themselves just don’t get it. They will happily screw over the artists in their quest for content control. Control being the operative word.

Hey John.
Hope you’re having a great Christmas. Things here are good. Kids are having a fun Christmas.
I’ll try to remember to drop you a note tomorrow with all of my new info. I’m a slacker. But you already knew that.
